Is it the webmaster’s job to rank you in Google?
This ‘webmaster’ title is a weird one. It got tossed up there when the Internet got big and websites were still new and tricky. It’s got this ’emperor’ type of title.
He’s the master. The big cheese. The all powerful one behind the curtain.
And what do they do? Create websites and update all content with there powerful key?
Thankfully it’s the web 2.0 era we the people are more empowered now. There are popular things like wordpress and sharepoint making it easier for your enterprise to run themselves the way YOU need them to.
Of course the right words DO need to be in your website and it’s your website professional’s job to help guide you with the right words that are searched in google.
So why doesn’t the webmaster rank you too?
Most of the time you hear the same old thing. Flash is bad. You can’t have flash. Google can’t read your website if you have flash.
Use keywords in your home page and the url. Keep adding GOOD and QUALITY content and the traffic will come.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
You need to also market your efforts and get that word out about what you do and why customers should trust you. If your customers don’t know about you, then you’re not in the game.
Did you see Slumdog Millionaire? You’ve heard of it right? Good flick.
Did you know it came super close to never being distributed in the U.S? It would have been the same great movie. We just would have never heard of it. Therefore we probably wouldn’t have seen it or cared about what we were missing.
The key is distribution
When a website is new no one knows about it. But they will when we share the link. And when that link is on Google and ranks higher, more people will know about it.
Without links in front faces, your website is as good as Slumdog Millionaire on a shelf in Birmingham.
To your friends, neighbors and potential customers, it’s as good as dead. It doesn’t exist!
